Orthodontic treatment can be successful at any age and adults especially appreciate the benefits of a beautiful smile. One of every five patients in orthodontic treatment is over 21. A few patients need jaw movements as well as teeth movement and will be given a referral to be evaluated for jaw surgery as part of the orthodontic treatment plan to finish with the best result. Some adults may also have experienced some breakdown or loss of their teeth and bone that supports the teeth and may require some periodontal treatment before, during, and/or after orthodontic treatment. Aligning the teeth at any age is recommended not only for esthetics but also when the teeth are aligned they are easier to clean and keep healthy.
